Pantry Files: Gevity Rx Co-Founder, Atlanta Fowler

In this edition of Pantry Files, we speak with Atlanta Fowler, the Co-Founder behind Gevity Rx. Gevity was a first mover in the increasingly crowded bone broth category. Now with a range expanding to marinades, sauces and even a plant-based, sugar-free chocolate, Gevity’s better-for-you and gut-healing range is by far a Wholesome customer favourite. Originating from Atlanta’s own health challenges, the brand has been transformative for many Australians, and we are proud to have this family-founded, Australian brand on our virtual shelves.

Can you tell us about the story behind, the genesis of Gevity?

Absolutely! It's a bit of a love story, to be honest. About eight years ago, things were going great for us. We'd been together for a while, planning our future together. But then, life took an unexpected turn. I started experiencing extreme exhaustion, mood swings, anxiety, and panic attacks. It was really scary, and we had no idea what was causing it. We tried the traditional medicine route, but it didn't lead us anywhere.

So, we decided to take matters into our own hands. We stopped searching for doctors and instead began exploring natural health solutions. After a year of learning and experimenting, we figured out that my problems were related to gut health, specifically "leaky gut". This was causing food allergies, inflammation, and affecting my overall health.

To fix it, we started the process of healing the gut, which sounds straightforward - eliminate problem foods (gluten, sugar, processed dairy, lectins, etc.) and add bone broth to aid in healing the gut lining. Unfortunately, back then, most bone broth products on the market (which weren’t many) all contained ingredients that were making me worse (meat, onion, garlic for example). They lacked the collagen-forming amino acids crucial for gut healing and there was no way of knowing the true nutrient breakdown as that wasn’t disclosed.

My beautiful husband spent months experimenting, reconfiguring equipment, and creating a unique, highly concentrated version of traditional bone broth. It was so thick and rich that he lovingly called it "Atlanta’s Body Glue." This "glue" was exactly what I needed to repair my gut lining and end the inflammation. The thick glue-like consistency was unlike anything on the market so we put it to the test and had it independently lab tested which confirmed what we could see - an incredibly high collagen content, about 10 times more than regular liquid bone broth

Fast forward three months, and the transformation was remarkable. Things went back to normal - "happy wife, happy life," right? We knew we couldn’t keep this all to ourselves - so that's how Gevity Rx came to be.

How do you position and differentiate yourself in an increasingly crowded health and wellness market?

Absolutely, standing out in a crowded market is a challenge, but it's one we wholeheartedly embrace at Gevity Rx. Our approach is grounded in authenticity and purpose. We are committed to crafting original products that serve a clear purpose, products that we genuinely believe can make a positive impact on people's lives.

While others might succumb to the temptation of quick wins by creating copycat products or jumping on trendy bandwagons, we steadfastly refuse to compromise on our principles. Each product in our range has a purpose beyond profit; it's born out of a genuine need, either identified through personal experiences or inspired by a gap in the market that aligns with our values.

We believe in the power of innovation and refuse to cut corners for the sake of commercial gain. Our customers trust us not only for the quality of our offerings but also for the authenticity embedded in every product. We don't just add products to our range for the sake of diversification; each addition is a thoughtful, purpose-driven creation.

This commitment to originality and purpose sets us apart. It's not just about being another player in the market; it's about being a brand that people can rely on for products that are unique, effective, and genuinely contribute to their well-being. In a sea of choices, we aim to be the brand that stands out not just for what we sell, but why we sell it.

Do you have a routine or daily ritual for well-being?

We are big on routine at the Fowler Residence - both morning and evening. Mornings always start with a 50-minute Joe Dispenza meditation, a shot of ACV, exercise, a 30-minute infrared sauna and journaling to get that daily appreciation in. We generally fast till dinner most days, but if I am not fasting or feel a little depleted, I will also have a cup of Body Glue to get me through. We eat dinner quite early, and it always starts with a cup of my Green Fibre Cleanse Soup - it’s delicious, packed with fibrous veg and we can’t live without it! Evening wind down consists of blue blocker glasses, no computer work after dinner, stretching and my current fav Body Glue indulgence - a cup of Boost with 2 squares of Sweet Guts melted into the mix. Heaven!

What gets you out of bed in the morning and motivates you to do what you do every day?

What fuels my mornings is a genuine and unwavering love for the life we've built. It's a unique blend of passion and purpose that makes every day not feel like work for either me or Mark. Our shared commitment to health and wellness has always been a driving force, but there's something incredibly fulfilling about creating products that are groundbreaking, products that go beyond the ordinary.

Creating first-of-their-kind solutions, products that genuinely transform lives and redefine health norms, is what excites us. Hearing stories from our customers, especially those with conditions like diabetes or chronic arthritis, who can now enjoy chocolate without worrying about insulin spikes or find relief from long-term pain – that's the real motivation.

It's not just about creating products; it's about creating a positive change in people's lives. That, to us, is the ultimate reward and the driving force that makes every long day worth the effort.

What is your favourite way to use Gevity Rx? Do you have a favourite recipe using Gevity Rx?

There are not many meals that aren’t “gevity-fied” here. I love cooking and majority of the meals I cook are infused with Body Glue in one way or another. I’m always adding Body Glue to rice, veggies and saucy dishes and we go through a few jars of Bone Broth Sauce per week. We abstain from meat and eat only seafood Monday through Thursday which our Souped-Up Sriracha Mayo was made for - if you haven’t tried prawns dipped in it, you’re missing out! Choosing a favourite recipe would be very hard for me as I am such a foodie. I’d say the recipes I have recreated the most from our blog would be Chicken, Leek & Bacon Casserole, our Carrot, Ginger and Turmeric Soup and of late, KFC “fakeaway” which is a super fun weekend dinner, without the nasties.

What are some of your favourite pantry staples? Are there any pantry staples that you consider your ‘secret weapons’ or go-to ingredients?

  1. Cococut Aminos. We eat a lot of raw fish so we use this in place of soy sauce
  2. Organic EVOO and premium-quality salt
  3. Cassava Flour - packed with fibre and makes a great gluten free pastry and is an easy way to thicken sauces
  4. Coconut Cream - I use this in everything from curries to soups, to fruity brothsicles
  5. Organic Herbs and Spices

Can you describe your pantry using three adjectives or phrases?

  1. Nourishing: Our pantry is all about fostering gut health and longevity with natures best ingredients.
  2. Abundant: It's a treasure trove of wholesome options, so well-stocked that, my husband jokingly refers to me as an Italian Nonna trapped in my own body. Despite there being just two of us, I'm always ready to cook for a crowd. Our pantry mirrors this abundance and my “more is better” personality lol.
  3. Natures Medicine Cabinet - our pantry houses all my natural remedies like Oregano Oil, Black Seed Oil, Coconut Charcoal, Peppermint Oil, Detox Teas, Psyllium Husk, Liver Capsules

What’s your favourite thing to cook or your go-to meal?

I love to be creative and try different things in the kitchen so I don't really have a go-to meal as such. I love experimenting with sashimi - I am addicted to raw tuna. One of our favourite recipes most recently was a raw tuna, fennel and blood orange salad which was insanely good.  Probably the most created cuisine in our house is Mexican as it’s simple and clean ingredients. Whether it’s traditional tacos, nachos or a mexican bowl we always switch sour cream for Coconut Yoghurt and regular cheese for either goat or lactose-free cheese for my allergies. An overwhelming and ridiculous amount of coriander is a non-negotiable as well. Controversial I know.

What’s next for Gevity Rx? What’s inspiring you right now?

We have an exciting journey ahead in terms of product development. Expect to see additional SKUs in some of our ranges early next year, along with an entirely new category. As Head of Brand, I'm particularly thrilled about our recent event division launch. It's been fantastic to return to in-person events, deliver real value, and engage with our customers face-to-face. Additionally, I’m working on a new merch and apparel line, a constant request from our supporters. But what truly keeps me going is the daily inspiration we draw from our incredible customers and followers who share their stories, feedback, and health journeys. They are the reason we do what we do, and without them, there would be no Gevity.
