Recycle with Wholesome through TerraCycle

Recycle and Earn

Here at Wholesome we are committed to closing the waste loop and choose our brands based on what they are doing to protect our planet’s finite resources. Our brand partners offer products with recyclable or compostable packaging and are on their own journey to continue to innovate with packaging. However, there are some products that just aren’t there yet for numerous reasons. To deal with these ‘hard to recycle’ items that can’t be recycled in kerbside recycling bins. we offer to do it for you through our TerraCycle® recycling program. Better yet, we reward you for helping us close the waste loop.

If available to you, we encourage you to recycle appropriate materials through programs at your local council. Otherwise, use your Wholesome box, fill it with ‘hard to recycle’ packaging and send it to us.

When you send us your waste, we’ll reward you with a $10 Wholesome Cash to use on your next order!

How it works:

  • Step 1:keep your Wholesome box or use another box and fill it with empty ‘hard to recycle’ items. See below for a list of items that we’ll accept. Make sure your items are as free of product as possible. Please do not send half full or full products. Save your empties until you have a full box to send.
  • ** If you choose to rinse your items, please make sure there is no excess water and the item is completely dry prior to shipping.
  • Step 2:once your box is full, write the name and email address associated with your Wholesome account on the inside of the box or place a small piece of paper with this information on it in the box.
  • Step 3:please email us at [email protected] for the address to send your products to be recycled. We do ask that you cover the postage. The recycling is on us, and we’ll also reward you with a credit for doing your extra part to close the loop on the products you consume.
  • Step 4:when we receive your box, we will apply a $10 Wholesome cash/credit to your account. We’ll send you an email to confirm that the reward has been applied.
  • Step 5:we will then recycle these items via TerraCycle® where they will transform your items into new products such as park benches and playgrounds.

What you can recycle with us:

Flexible and ridged plastics: packaging (e.g. bags, pouches) from chips, snacks and pantry items that we sell and are not kerbside recyclable. **If soft plastic recycling is available at your local supermarket, we urge you to opt for this method first.

Personal care and beauty products: makeup, skincare related items in plastic containers including makeup (including palettes, mascara and lip gloss tubes, spray nozzles and pump mechanisms), toothpaste tubes, lotion containers, body wash, shampoo and conditional bottles. We prefer that you send just items you’ve purchased from us but we will also accept packaging not bought from us (i.e. brands that we don’t sell that you might have bought at another shop).

**Please do not send used menstrual cups, razor blades, any bio-medical or bio-hazardous waste or any contents of packaging such as nail-polish, lotion, soap or ointments.

Coffee Pods and Capsules: any brand or size of coffee (or other beverage) capsule (these can have been purchased from anywhere). **Do not send in beverage waste such as tea or coffee filters, loose coffee grounds and electronics (i.e. coffee makers).

Art and stationery: pens, pencils, markers, highlighters, staplers, tape & paperclips.

**Please only send personal use items as we cannot accept items from businesses and schools.

Do not send in household items that may be considered hazardous waste. These include items such as batteries, lithium-ion batteries, pressurized canisters (including aerosols), pesticides, oil-based paint or medical sharps, organics, broken glass, biomedical waste, soiled diapers, or expired medication. Do not send in anything sharp, flammable, reactive, corrosive, ignitable, radioactive, toxic, infectious, or pathogenic.

The TerraCycle Australia Zero Waste Boxes we use to collect ‘hard to recycle’ items are proudly Made in Australia and are FSC certified to ensure the cardboard is sustainably sourced.

We fund this program ourselves and as a service for our customers. As such, we do not accept waste from other businesses or organisations, or recycling from other recycling programs. If your business is interested in contributing to the establishment of a more circular economy, we highly recommend setting up a program through TerraCycle® and purchasing zero-waste recycling boxes here.
