Seven Ways to Love Your Gut
We love your gut! Let us count the ways.
Well, we’ve actually counted the ways and the count is 7!
We sat down with Lee Holmes, Clinical Nutritionist and Founder of Supercharged Food to talk briefly about the hardest-working and most underrated organ there is - the gut. And what makes a loved gut, loved. Here are Lee's expert recommendations on how to best love your gut.
“The gut is your body’s workhorse organ. All nutrition and hydration goes in and through there. The gut then disperses nutrients through your vital organs. It also disposes of waste."
Gut issues are the most common ailment I come across in my nutrition clinic says Lee.
The gut is directly linked to any number of health conditions including Leaky gut, IBS, Crohn's disease, bloating, constipation, diarrhoea and food sensitivities, small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
More generally though, your gut is key to overall health: energy, weight, vitality and immunity. On the minus side an unhealthy gut environment can be the culprit for an unhealthy you.

So, what is a loved gut?
A loved gut is a happy, looked after, productive gut.
When you love your gut, you're being just a little mindful of what goes in there and how it can do its job most efficiently.
The good news is there’s simple, everyday actions you can take to love your gut. Here’s a list of our favourite 7 ways.
- Clean your gut. According to Lee, “we can carry anywhere from 500g to 3 kilos of undiscarded waste in our digestive system. This can dramatically affect the absorption of nutrients and hydration. Cleaning your gut slowly and purposefully will set you up for good health. It’s also the primary role for my Love Your Gut diatomaceous earth powder and capsules and Fulvic Humic drops.”
- Eat more fibre everyday. We don’t get enough in our diets nowadays.
- Drink more fresh water. Make it your mission to have water in arm’s reach 24/7.
- Gut massage. Watch this video from Supercharged Food. The massage action mimics the action and direction of food through the gut.
- Move more. A sedentary lifestyle is not the good life for your gut.
- Reduce processed food. A tough thing to process given all the processed food available. But get closer to nature and ingredients in their natural form - corn on the cob not corn chips.
- Populate your microbiota. As you’re cleaning out the waste in your system, replace it with stuff your gut loves like prebiotics, probiotics, dietary fibre and digestive enzymes. That’s why Lee created Love Your Gut Synbiotic Blend. It’s all these in an easy to drink daily form.
A final word from Lee, “Having written two best-selling books on gut health, I’m clearly biased but looking after your gut, keeping it clean and well-fed is my best general nutrition advice. Even better, is that your body will start craving the good nutrients over the bad. It’s a virtuous circle of love.”
